Love Your Spine!
1. Mind Your Posture
Good posture is one of the keys to a healthy spine! Whether sitting, standing, or walking, maintaining a neutral spine alignment helps prevent strain and discomfort. Take regular breaks if you sit for long periods, and remember to sit tall—think about stacking your ears over your shoulders and your shoulders over your hips. Our posture often reflects positions we spend a lot of time in.
2. Support Your Sleep with the Right Pillow and Mattress
Your pillow and mattress are crucial in ensuring your spine stays in a healthy, neutral position while you sleep. Here’s how to choose the right support:
Pillow: Your pillow should support the natural curve of your neck. If you sleep on your back, a thinner pillow works best, while a firmer pillow is ideal for side sleepers to keep the neck aligned with the spine.
Mattress: A firm mattress is a good option for most and facilitates in supporting the spine in a neutral alignment whilst distributing body weight evenly.
3. Stay Active
Movement is essential for maintaining good spinal health. Regular exercise strengthens the muscles around your spine to help support better alignment of the spine. Incorporate stretches and core-strengthening exercises into your routine to keep your spine mobile and strong.
4. Chiropractic Care: A Foundation of Healing
Regular chiropractic care helps maintain proper spinal alignment, enhance nervous system function, and relieves physical stressors. Chiropractic care is not just for those in pain; it's a proactive way to support your overall health and keep your spine and nervous system functioning in the best way possible.
5. Stress Less, Love More
Emotional stress can cause tension in the nervous system, leading to dysfunction, discomfort and pain. Take time each day to relax, whether through deep breathing, an epsom salt bath or getting some fresh air. Managing stress not only benefits your spine but your entire body. Prioritising time for ourselves is important, but connecting with others also has a big impact on our health! Have alone time to recharge, but also take time to build community and see friends and family regularly.
